ST Engineering Wins Defense Satellite Communications Contracts in Asia, Europe

ST Engineering iDirect has secured multiple defense satellite communications contracts from undisclosed customers in Asia and Europe.

In Southeast Asia, one contract will strengthen a defense ministry’s naval communications with systems that automatically switch terminals between satellite beams, helping maintain connectivity between ships and command centers.

A second agreement covers protected tactical and fixed communications based on compact satellite terminals, centralized network management, and encrypted links for rapidly deployable operations.

In Europe, one contract will provide a Western European defense ministry with satellite communications systems compatible with the US military’s Wideband Global SATCOM network, supporting secure command-and-control, voice, and coalition communications across dispersed locations.

Another Central European military customer will introduce new satellite communications equipment designed to provide more reliable tactical communications while reducing signal interference.

Separately, a European aerospace and defense company selected the firm’s technology for an undisclosed naval program combining shipborne antenna integration, automatic beam switching, and multilayer security to support protected maritime communications.

Broader Defense Portfolio

US-based ST Engineering iDirect is the satellite communications subsidiary of Singapore’s ST Engineering, whose defense portfolio extends beyond satellite networks to naval platforms, autonomous systems, and other military technologies. 

This month, the company launched the RSS Valour, the second of six Multi-Role Combat Vessels being built for the Republic of Singapore Navy.

Scheduled to enter service from 2028, the ships are designed to operate as command platforms capable of coordinating airborne, surface, and underwater uncrewed operations.

Earlier this year, ST Engineering also partnered with US company Shield AI to evaluate integration of Hivemind autonomy software into selected defense platforms.

The collaboration will assess how artificial intelligence can support autonomous navigation, onboard decision-making, and mission execution during operational demonstrations.
