French firms Eviden and Thales have integrated Galileo Public Regulated Service (PRS) navigation into a positioning system used by French Army vehicles.
The upgrade adds Thales’ Galileo PRS capability to Eviden’s Plug and Play Positioning and Timing System (P3TS) military satellite navigation receiver, improving the resilience of vehicle positioning against electronic warfare threats such as jamming and spoofing while securing positioning data in contested environments.
The enhanced receiver will be offered in two configurations. One integrates the TopStar Galileo PRS Core Module, allowing access to secure Galileo PRS signals alongside open-service signals. The other combines either GPS or the TopStar Smart Receiver with additional anti-jamming capabilities.
Both versions include a high-precision clock designed to keep tactical radios synchronized even if GNSS signals are lost, helping maintain communications during disrupted operations.
The upgraded P3TS PRS builds on the industrialization and operational support program that Eviden is carrying out for the French defense procurement agency. It also supports deployment of the SCORPION Combat Information System, which provides real-time situational awareness for French Army units.
Expanded Land Defense Collaboration
The Eviden-Thales agreement follows several recent European partnerships aimed at strengthening land forces through industrial cooperation and technology development.
In June, Rheinmetall and Greece’s GEK TERNA signed a long-term framework agreement to support the Hellenic Armed Forces through new tactical equipment and upgrades to existing land systems.
The same month, AM General authorized the UK’s Marshall Land Systems as a service provider for the Humvee fleet, advancing an earlier partnership tied to the British Army’s Light Mobility Vehicle program.
Earlier, in February, Belgium launched the Land Systems Logistic Support alliance, bringing together John Cockerill Defense, FN Herstal, and Thales Belgium under a 20-year partnership to centralize the maintenance, modernization, and logistics support of the Belgian Army’s land vehicles, communications systems, and weapon platforms.
