Rheinmetall and Athens-based GEK TERNA have signed a long-term strategic framework agreement to support land systems for the Hellenic Armed Forces.
The move builds on a memorandum of understanding signed in late 2025 to expand cooperation between the firms, leveraging the German company’s land and defense portfolio and GEK TERNA’s expertise in infrastructure, energy, and industrial efforts across Southeastern Europe.
According to the firms, the collaboration aims to deliver new tactical equipment while upgrading existing platforms.
It will also reinforce the NATO country’s industrial capacity by developing indigenous manufacturing, system integration, sustainment, and lifecycle assistance for related military technologies.
A key element of the cooperation is utilizing industrial capabilities within Hellenic Armed Forces facilities, with small and medium-sized Greek enterprises expected to play a role in production and sustainment activities.
The consortium emphasized that combining their capabilities would address current and future warfighter needs with “reliable, high-quality integrated defense solutions” while supporting the long-term growth of the Balkan state’s economy.
“By progressively establishing domestic production… the partnership seeks to strengthen Greece’s long-term operational self-reliance, institutional expertise and sovereign ability to sustain critical defence capabilities throughout their entire lifecycle,” Rheinmetall said.
Military Truck Assembly
The arrangement comes after Rheinmetall teamed up with Hellenic Vehicles Industries to locally assemble military trucks in Greece, with works focused on logistics vehicles and specialized military systems.
The resulting platforms will be marketed to Greece’s joint military forces, with activities to be facilitated in Thessaloniki.
In addition to vehicle production, the partnership will cover the installation of mounted weapons.
