Thales, Destinus Partner on Counter-Drone, Long-Range Strike Systems
Thales and Destinus have signed a strategic partnership to jointly develop counter-drone, long-range strike, and integrated air defense systems for European and international armed forces.
The agreement, signed at Eurosatory 2026, will focus on system integration and scalable production to address evolving battlefield threats.
Thales will supply key subsystems for Destinus’ interceptor systems and long-range effectors, including NATO-standard military warheads. Both companies also plan to jointly produce the Hornet interceptor system at an industrial facility qualified to handle pyrotechnic components.
Another area of cooperation involves integrating the Hornet family of interceptor systems with Thales’ counter-drone solutions and radar technologies. They will also collaborate on developing long-range effectors that can be launched from tactical transport aircraft.
Destinus Chief Technology Officer Tim Moser said the partnership is designed to improve the connection between threat detection and interception while ensuring operators remain responsible for engagement decisions.
Companies Expand Counter-Drone Partnerships
The Thales-Destinus partnership reflects a broader push across the defense industry to combine sensors, command systems, and interceptor technologies into integrated counter-drone solutions.
In July, Israel’s Innoviz Technologies and Givon Defense agreed to evaluate LiDAR-based precision localization technology for counter-drone systems, combining automotive-grade sensing with battlefield detection capabilities.
Earlier, in June, L3Harris Technologies and Turkey’s Skydagger Technologies signed an agreement to explore integrating interceptor drones into the VAMPIRE counter-unmanned aerial system.
The effort followed a January partnership between Germany’s HENSOLDT and TYTAN Technologies to combine interceptor drones with HENSOLDT’s sensors and Elysion Mission Core command-and-control software.
