CHAOS Industries has acquired Atropos Group to combine airborne platforms with its radar, sensor, and counter-drone technologies.
The acquisition brings Atropos’ autonomous air vehicle designs and flight software into CHAOS Industries’ portfolio, allowing the company to develop integrated systems capable of detecting, tracking, and engaging aerial threats from mobile airborne platforms.
“This acquisition brings together two companies with a shared belief that the drone threat demands a fundamentally different answer,” CHAOS CEO John Tenet said.
This deal also expands the company’s domestic manufacturing footprint by adding airframe production to its existing US facilities, where its radar and sensing systems are already being produced for critical infrastructure protection in the US and the Middle East.
As part of the transaction, the entire Atropos team will join CHAOS Industries. Co-founder Vince Dutcavich will lead the newly established Aerospace Division, while co-founder Colin Carroll will become chief growth officer overseeing business development and customer engagement.
Defense Companies Expand Autonomous Capabilities
CHAOS Industries joins a growing list of defense companies using acquisitions to strengthen autonomous technologies and unmanned capabilities.
In July, Ondas acquired DZYNE Technologies in an $875.8-million deal, adding long-endurance drones, counter-uncrewed aerial systems, and autonomous strike capabilities to its portfolio.
In May, Elbit Systems subsidiary FUSE acquired Bluewhite, expanding its autonomy portfolio with AI-enabled ground robotic systems for off-road and defense applications.
Earlier, in April, Red Cat Holdings acquired Apium Swarm Robotics to strengthen its autonomous drone portfolio with swarming technology.
