Kratos Defense & Security Solutions has delivered a critical turbomachinery component for Lockheed Martin’s advanced ramjet propulsion program after completing development and testing.
The company said it has designed, built, tested, and delivered a system that uses ram air energy to support propulsion operations. The self-regulating design reduces size and weight compared with alternative approaches while supporting the program’s performance and affordability goals.
Before integration, Kratos conducted a standalone test campaign to validate operating performance, durability, and reliability.
“Our philosophy is to collaborate with industry leaders who share our mission of delivering cutting-edge technologies and capabilities to market quickly and cost-effectively,” Kratos President of Turbine Technologies Stacey Rock said.
US Propulsion System Developments
Kratos’ latest milestone comes as the US defense industry continues advancing propulsion technologies for next-generation missiles and aircraft.
In July, L3Harris successfully completed the first full-scale test of its solid-fuel ramjet propulsion system, validating its performance under flight-like conditions and marking a milestone in the development of next-generation missile propulsion.
The same month, the company also announced plans to quadruple production of systems for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense interceptor under a new agreement with the US Department of Defense and Lockheed Martin.
Separately, Lockheed Martin and Venus Aerospace launched a collaboration to evaluate the use of Venus’ flight-tested propulsion technology in future long-range precision strike weapons.
