Ottawa has launched the Defence Drone Initiative (DDI), a new program aimed at speeding the development and fielding of Canadian-built unmanned systems for the Canadian Armed Forces.
Led by the Department of Defence and the Defence Investment Agency, the initiative is designed to move domestic technologies more quickly from development and operational testing into production.
It also seeks to strengthen Canada’s defense industrial base and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers in response to changing battlefield demands.
