The US Army has ordered more than $40 million in next-generation combat helmets from Avon Technologies’ Team Wendy Ceradyne.
The delivery orders were issued by the US Army Contracting Command and the Defense Logistics Agency under the Next Generation Integrated Head Protection System (NG-IHPS) helmet contract.
Avon Technologies said Team Wendy Ceradyne secured the largest share of the latest delivery orders awarded by both agencies through the contract’s competitive ordering process.
The NG-IHPS is the army’s latest combat helmet system, designed to improve ballistic protection while reducing weight compared with earlier-generation helmets.
It is also built to integrate with modern soldier equipment, including communications headsets, hearing protection, night vision devices, and other mission systems.
US Helmet Systems
The NG-IHPS is part of the US military’s broader effort to boost protective equipment for soldiers across various mission sets.
In June, it awarded Ohio-based ArmorSource a $17.6-million contract to deliver 25,000 Advanced Combat Helmet Gen II systems, offering improved ballistic protection while reducing weight and increasing wearer comfort.
Earlier, in March, the army selected Elbit America under a $120.5-million contract to develop a helmet-mounted mission command system that combines multiple battlefield sensor feeds into a single display. This allows dismounted soldiers to share intelligence and threat information in real time.
The effort follows the army’s January plans to field the Integrated Multi-Threat Headborne System, which combines Team Wendy Ceradyne’s ballistic helmet with Theon’s electronic technologies to enhance both protection and situational awareness during multi-domain operations.
