The US State Department has approved a potential foreign military sale of Switchblade 300 Block 20 loitering munitions to Greece.
Aerovironment, also known as AV, has been designated as the primary contractor.
The package, with an estimated cost of $80.1 million, covers 350 Switchblade 300 Block 20s, 35 fire control systems (FCS), and tactical battery chargers.
It also includes Switchblade 600 selective availability anti-spoofing module GPS, FCS, smart battery chargers, spares, training services, and other related elements of logistics and program support.
According to the notice, the proposed sale is intended to improve the security of a NATO ally in Europe, support coalition operations, and increase interoperability with US forces.
The deal follows the Greek government’s approval in December 2024 to procure Switchblade kamikaze drones.
Switchblade 300 Block 20
First introduced in 2023, the Switchblade 300 Block 20 is launched from a portable tube to deliver beyond-line-of-sight precision strikes against personnel, light vehicles, and armored threats.
The kamikaze drone has been acquired by several forces, including the US, and has proven itself in combat in Ukraine.
It features a modular payload that supports fragmentation or explosively formed penetrator warheads, high-resolution electro-optical and infrared sensors, and a tablet-based FCS.
With a total weight of 7 pounds (3.27 kilograms), it can cruise at a speed of 63 miles (101 kilometers) per hour and dash at 100 miles (161 kilometers) per hour.
The drone can remain airborne for over 20 minutes and travel up to 30 kilometers (18.6 miles).
