The US Marine Corps (USMC) has placed a delivery order with Polaris Government and Defense for more than 70 MRZR Alpha Ultra-Light Tactical Vehicles (ULTVs), including its first 5kW exportable-power variant.
The order falls under a five-year, $98-million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, allowing the Marine Corps to issue orders incrementally based on operational requirements. It also includes ongoing engineering and logistics support from Polaris.
More than half the vehicles ordered are the new 5kW export power variant, and the remaining are the standard, 1kW version. All are green, four-seat vehicles.
The availability of 5 kW of exportable power at 24 volts, whether stationary or on the move, meets the growing demand from power-hungry systems such as tactical edge computing and air defense equipment.
It also allows the vehicle to support external loads, including forward operating tactical grids, which are key enablers of littoral operations in contested environments.
Crucially, this added power capability does not come at the expense of the vehicle’s core mission. It retains the capacity to carry two litters and other mission-critical supplies, while removing the need for a separate generator and freeing up valuable cargo space.
Accessories
The order also includes commonly used Polaris accessories for MRZR Alpha ULTVs in Marine Corps service. These include a reversible roof kit with dual camouflage options, a road march kit with enhanced lighting and mirrors for improved situational awareness, and a modular cargo system with siderails, a tailgate, and integrated aircraft rails for securing gear and litter mounts.
It also features a roll-cage–mounted fire extinguisher and a dedicated towbar mount for secure storage when not in use.
“Polaris engineering and development efforts resulted in expanded accessories developed specifically for MRZR Alpha customers, like the Marines,” Defense program manager at Polaris Government and Defense Erin Telander said.
“That includes the ability to export 5kW of power directly from the vehicle itself, which the Marines will be able to leverage with their latest order.”
MRZR Alpha
The MRZR Alpha is Polaris’ most advanced light tactical vehicle, built for expeditionary forces with high payload capacity, strong off-road performance, and tactical air transportability.
Over 500 MRZR Alpha ULTVs are already in USMC service, supporting missions including logistics, medical evacuation, infantry maneuver, aircraft ground refueling, and counter-drone operations.
The platform is offered in 5kW and 1kW power configurations for both high-demand systems and lightweight electronics. Both variants feature a three-port fused connector for simultaneous onboard and external power use while stationary or on the move.
It has a payload capacity of 2,000 pounds (907 kilograms), an operational range of 225 miles (362 kilometers), accommodates four personnel, and provides 12 inches (30 centimeters) of ground clearance with 32-inch (81-centimeter) tires for enhanced off-road mobility.
