US Air Force Adds L2 Aviation to KC-46A Sustainment Contractor Pool
L2 Aviation has secured eligibility to bid for future sustainment work on the US Air Force’s KC-46A Pegasus aerial refueling aircraft.
The program supports the long-term maintenance of the US Air Force’s growing KC-46A fleet by giving the service access to multiple qualified repair providers.
Under the initiative, participating companies may compete for task orders involving the repair, teardown, testing, and sustainment of aircraft components.
As more KC-46A aircraft enter service, the program aims to ensure continued maintenance and overhaul capacity for key aircraft systems and components.
According to L2 Aviation, its work under future task orders could draw on capabilities including engineering, manufacturing, component repair, and supply chain management.
KC-46A Pegasus
Built by Boeing, the KC-46A Pegasus is the US Air Force’s next-generation aerial refueling aircraft.
In addition to air-to-air refueling, the platform is designed to carry cargo and passengers and can be configured for aeromedical evacuation missions.
The aircraft is equipped with both a fly-by-wire refueling boom for larger receiver aircraft and a hose-and-drogue system, enabling it to support a range of US and allied military aircraft.
When fitted with wing aerial refueling pods, it can refuel multiple aircraft simultaneously.
Powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW4062 turbofan engines, the KC-46A has a maximum takeoff weight of 415,000 pounds (188,240 kilograms) and can carry 212,299 pounds (96,297 kilograms) of fuel.
The aircraft measures 159 feet (48.5 meters) in length and has a wingspan of 156 feet (47.5 meters).
It also incorporates defensive systems and secure communications to improve survivability during operations in contested environments.
