Fincantieri has secured a contract to operate the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces’ Training and Simulation Centre, expanding its role from shipbuilder to long-term training partner for the Gulf nation.
The three-year agreement covers the operational management of the Training and Simulation Centre, which Fincantieri delivered in 2021 as part of its naval modernization program for Qatar.
Located in Qatar, the facility supports the training of naval officers, non-commissioned officers, and sailors through advanced simulation systems that replicate complex tactical and operational scenarios.
Fincantieri will provide a team composed primarily of former military personnel with experience in naval operations, platform management, operational procedures, and maritime doctrine.
It will also oversee simulation-based training while implementing a knowledge-transfer program designed to help Qatari personnel gradually assume responsibility for managing the facility.
Middle East Expands Training Infrastructure
Qatar’s Training and Simulation Centre is one of several military training facilities that countries across the Middle East have built or expanded in recent years to improve operational readiness.
In April, the UAE announced plans to build a $50-million facility that will simulate high-risk rescue and security missions in a controlled environment for military, police, and emergency responders.
The project complements the UAE Navy’s existing networked naval simulation training system developed by CAE.
The effort also builds on EDGE’s plans to establish the X Range, a defense testing and training center on a Gulf Cooperation Council island. The facility will provide demonstration and evaluation capabilities for military platforms and systems across the air, land, maritime, and electronic warfare domains.
