The Italian Army has selected Cubic Defense to upgrade its live training systems as part of a broader push toward integrated, data-driven military training.
Under the SIM 2.0 program, Cubic will deliver new live simulation capabilities designed to improve realism, interoperability, and training efficiency across Italian Army units.
A key objective is to allow troops to train under conditions that more closely replicate battlefield operations.
According to Cubic, the system will introduce enhanced battlefield effects simulation, expanded data collection, and improved after-action review tools intended to provide commanders and trainers with deeper insights into unit performance.
The upgrade will also incorporate mortar training systems, while laying the groundwork for future integration into a wider live, virtual, and constructive training architecture.
“This agreement reflects a shared vision with the Italian Army to evolve training capabilities that meet today’s operational demands while positioning for future [live, virtual, and constructive] integration and growth,” Alicia Combs, Vice President and General Manager of Ground Training at Cubic Defense, said.
Italy Investing in Training Modernization
The SIM 2.0 award is the latest in a series of efforts by the Italian Armed Forces to modernize military training through advanced simulation and digital technologies.
In March, Italy selected BAE Systems subsidiary OneArc to modernize the Italian Army’s virtual training systems under a five-year contract, upgrading legacy VBS3 platforms to the newer VBS4 simulation software and introducing the Mantle terrain-generation system.
Earlier, in January, the government approved a 112.6-million-euro ($130-million) investment to establish a new F-35 Lightning II training center at Trapani-Birgi Air Base.
