US Air Force Picks Salesforce to Manage $13.5B Vehicle Fleet
The US Air Force has adopted Salesforce’s Missionforce National Security platform to manage its $13.5-billion fleet of more than 84,000 vehicles across nearly 389 locations.
The new digital platform replaces a legacy system with a centralized logistics network used by the service’s 441st Vehicle Support Chain Operations Squadron.
The 85-person squadron manages the air force’s vehicle fleet and supports more than 7,300 personnel.
Built on Salesforce Government Cloud Plus Defense, the Missionforce platform consolidates logistics data into a single system, giving commanders and fleet managers real-time visibility into vehicle inventories, maintenance status, and distribution.
Among its capabilities are predictive analytics for estimating vehicle replacement timelines, dashboards for monitoring fleet performance, and applications designed to coordinate repairs and maintenance.
Future updates are also expected to support AI-powered maintenance forecasting by analyzing vehicle sensor data and automating tasks such as vehicle identification number validation.
Salesforce SVP Bill Pessin described the deal as a “strategic bet on the future of national security.”
US Pushes Digital Logistics
The US Air Force’s fleet management modernization is part of a broader effort across the US military to digitize logistics and improve sustainment.
In May, the service awarded Blue Yonder Defense Solutions a $62-million contract to further develop and sustain the Foundational Logistics Information Technology Enterprise System, a cloud-based platform that integrates commercial software and defense-specific tools to improve supply chain management and operational support.
The same month, FLEETWERX and the US Naval Postgraduate School demonstrated the FLEET-X concept, combining 3D printing, AI, and unmanned systems to manufacture and deliver critical replacement parts directly to the field.
Earlier, in March, the US Defense Logistics Agency gave Tetra Tech a $14-million contract to modernize the information technology and operational technology systems that support military inventory management, handling, and distribution.
