L3Harris Breaks Ground on PAC-3 Missile Propulsion Facilities in Arkansas

L3Harris is supporting increased production of the US Army’s PAC-3 propulsion systems with two additional facilities on the company’s Arkansas Advanced Propulsion Facilities (AAPF) campus in Camden.

AAPF specializes in producing medium and large solid rocket motors (SRM) that power several weapons, including tactical and air defense missiles, interceptors, hypersonic vehicles, and missile defense targets. 

Following a July 2025 announcement, the company broke ground on the two self-funded sites, which will include an approximately 75,000-square-foot (6,967-square-meter) cast, cure, and final assembly facility, as well as a 70,000-square-foot (6,503-square-meter) case preparation facility.

Several advanced manufacturing capabilities will be incorporated to increase the production speed and quantity of the PAC-3 propulsion systems. 

These include automated X-ray inspection systems that leverage artificial intelligence to quickly detect defects, fully automated casting, and expanded curing capacity.

“This expansion boosts our ability to deliver PAC‑3 propulsion faster and at greater quantities, while strengthening military readiness and providing proven capability our warfighters depend on,” said Christopher Kubasik, L3Harris Chairman and CEO. 

Supporting PAC-3 Production

Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor and manufacturer of the PAC-3 MSE interceptor, while L3Harris supplies key components, including the advanced two-pulse SRM, Attitude Control Motors (ACMs), and the Lethality Enhancer. 

Following the Pentagon and Lockheed’s landmark deal in January to more than triple PAC-3 MSE missile production, L3Harris announced several investments to expand missile propulsion manufacturing capacity.

These include a further billion-dollar expansion of its SRM production facility in Orange County, Virginia, securing a $1-billion investment from the Pentagon in April, and tapping a state-owned Polish defense company to produce ACMs.
