Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) has received a $50.6-million follow-on task order from the US Navy to continue the design, modernization, and sustainment of torpedo defense systems.
Awarded by the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, Rhode Island, the contract covers engineering and technical services for systems designed to detect, track, and counter torpedo threats.
Activities will span both existing capabilities and future programs, with a focus on improving performance, extending service life, and maintaining operational readiness.
The task order also involves several US Navy organizations engaged in undersea warfare and fleet protection.
Participating offices include the Undersea Warfare Systems Program Office, the International Fleet Support Program Office, the Office of Naval Research, and the Office of Naval Intelligence.
Digital Upgrades and Key Systems
SAIC will employ digital engineering, modeling, simulation, and cybersecurity tools across multiple torpedo defense programs.
According to SAIC, the technologies will help accelerate development and improve system analysis.
They will also be used throughout design, prototyping, testing, and modernization activities to reduce integration risks.
Programs covered by the contract include the AN/SLQ-25 “Nixie” torpedo countermeasure system, which uses a towed acoustic decoy to help protect ships from incoming torpedoes.
Additional systems include Acoustic Device Countermeasures, the MK 58 Compact Rapid Attack Weapon, the EX 2 Torpedo Warning System, and the Submarine Launched Unmanned Aerial System.
