US defense manufacturer Redwire is expanding its Huntsville campus in Alabama to accelerate the production of drones and other defense capabilities.
The construction work to add 164,000 square feet (15,236 square meters) of manufacturing and engineering capacity has already begun, supported by approximately $8.5 million in state and local economic development incentives.
The expanded site is intended to accelerate production of several defense products, including Redwire’s combat-proven Stalker uncrewed aerial system, which the US Army and the US Marine Corps have been ordering.
It will also scale production of Octopus gimbal payloads, advanced energy solutions, and space capabilities, strengthening critical domestic supply chains, according to the company.
Completion of the expansion is slated for the fourth quarter of 2027.
“Huntsville is one of the fastest-growing technology hubs in the United States, uniquely positioned at the intersection of America’s space and defense industries, which makes it the ideal location to expand our capabilities and strengthen America’s industrial base,” said Peter Cannito, Redwire Chairman and CEO.
Defense Hub Expansions in Huntsville
Redwire joins several other defense companies that have invested in growing their manufacturing capacities in Huntsville.
In March 2026, RTX’s Raytheon completed missile integration facility expansion work that began in April 2024.
AeroVironment received an additional $20 million investment from the US government in May, supporting the expansion of its production hub for the FE-1 kinetic counter-drone missile.
Last month, L3Harris Technologies also announced a $25 million investment that will be used to boost its solid rocket motor production capabilities in Huntsville.
