The US Department of Defense has awarded approximately $400 million to Kratos Defense & Security Solutions to support hypersonic and other national security programs.
The company said the funding reflects growing demand for its portfolio of high-speed technologies, which includes hypersonic flight vehicles, solid rocket motors, ballistic missile targets, and tactical systems.
Work will be carried out at secure Kratos facilities and government locations.
Dave Carter, president of Kratos’ Defense and Rocket Support Services Division, said the company continues to expand its work on high-speed systems, citing its Nemesis and Kraken initiatives as examples of its latest hypersonic efforts.
He added that Kratos expects additional hypersonic-related awards in the coming months.
US Expands Hypersonic Efforts
The latest funding comes as the US continues investing across multiple hypersonic weapons and testing programs.
In May, the US Army awarded Northrop Grumman a $325.5-million contract to develop the RangeHawk prototype, a modified RQ-4 Global Hawk that will collect flight-test data for hypersonic weapons more efficiently than existing ship-based methods.
The same month, the service awarded Leidos a $2.7-billion contract to transition the Thermal Protection Shield and Common Hypersonic Glide Body programs from development into production under a unified manufacturing framework designed to speed deliveries and strengthen the industrial base.
Earlier, in February, the Joint Hypersonics Transition Office selected Leidos, GoHypersonic, Special Aerospace Services, the Purdue Applied Research Institute, Halo Engines, and Kratos for contracts under the S²MARTS program to advance next-generation hypersonic technologies capable of flying at speeds exceeding Mach 5.
