Gentex Corporation has secured a $44.8-million contract to deliver helmet systems for US Army helicopter crews.
The five-year deal covers the Pennsylvania company’s proprietary HGU-56/P rotary-wing helmet technology, Apache helmet assemblies, related spares, and upgrade kits.
According to the firm, the agreement supports the military’s effort to sustain the availability and readiness of the proven devices throughout their service life.
The deal builds on Gentex’s long-standing collaboration with the army since the 1990s to supply, field, maintain, and modernize the critical piloting equipment for aviation teams.
“This award reflects the continued confidence the US Army places in Gentex and our ability to deliver proven, mission-critical aircrew protection systems,” said Marcus Gengler, segment director of rotary wing applications at Gentex Corporation.
“For decades, we’ve provided advanced helmet solutions that enhance safety, survivability, and mission effectiveness. We are honored to continue supporting Army aviators with the equipment they depend on every day.”
The Gentex HGU-56/P System
The HGU-56/P helmet is designed to provide impact protection while integrating communications, night vision equipment, and other mission systems for helicopter operators deployed in complex airspaces.
It weighs less than 2 kilograms (4 pounds), has a ballistic protection architecture, and is fitted with communication earplugs, active noise reduction, and dual polycarbonate visors that block more than 90 percent of ultraviolet rays.
The system can be equipped with additional features, including a lower face and windblast protection as well as low-light goggles, and is offered in four size variations.
