The Tennessee Army National Guard has graduated its first 12 soldiers from the Small Unmanned Aircraft System (SUAS) Master Trainer Course, expanding the US Army’s cadre of drone specialists.
Conducted by the 1st Battalion, 117th Military Police Regiment at the Volunteer Training Site in Smyrna, the two-week course trained experienced drone operators to manage unit-level training, certify new drone pilots, advise commanders, and integrate unmanned systems into operational planning.
Officials said the program also supports the Tennessee Army National Guard’s ongoing transition of the 278th Cavalry Regiment into a Mobile Brigade Combat Team, which will incorporate advanced UAS platforms.
