Moldova is set to receive more than 100 armored vehicles from Canadian firm Roshel, with over 50 million euros ($57 million) in funding from the European Union’s European Peace Facility.
Facilitated by the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments, the acquisition is part of a 2022 to 2025 aid package to strengthen the Moldovan armed forces’ mobility and transport capabilities.
Deliveries are slated for completion by May 2027.
Although Roshel did not identify the vehicle in its press release, the contract is widely reported to involve the company’s Senator vehicle family, which was first delivered to Chișinău in July 2025.
Roshel Senator Line
Roshel’s Senator vehicle is a 4×4 wheeled armored platform based on a Ford F-550 heavy commercial truck chassis, which helps lower costs while accelerating production timelines.
The Senator family is offered in multiple variants, including the Armored Personnel Carrier (APC), Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV), and the Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) version.
Senator APC is a modular platform that seats up to 12 personnel and is designed for military, law enforcement, and border security missions.
Meanwhile, the ERV features lightweight materials, insulation for heat and noise protection, as well as a fully air-conditioned interior to improve occupant comfort during extended operations.
The MRAP vehicle, already proven in Ukraine, features a V-shaped hull to improve protection against mine blasts and improvised explosive devices.
Security Threats
Like Ukraine, Moldova is a non-NATO country and an EU candidate, and the two share a border.
Although Chișinău said in 2023 that Moldova did not face an “imminent military danger,” it warned that Russia was conducting hybrid warfare to destabilize the country.
Since then, security concerns have remained elevated, including a 2024 appeal by pro-Russian officials in the breakaway region of Transnistria for Moscow’s protection and a 2025 drone incursion that prompted Moldova to temporarily close its airspace and accuse Russia of violating its sovereignty during attacks on Ukraine.
