Galvion, Paleblue Partner on Rechargeable Battery Technology for Defense

Galvion has invested in US battery technology company Paleblue to support the development of rechargeable lithium-ion power solutions for military applications.

The collaboration combines Paleblue’s single-cell rechargeable lithium-ion battery technology with Galvion’s expertise in soldier power management and integrated military equipment.

Under the initiative, the companies will evaluate integrating Paleblue’s technology into Galvion’s SoloPack battery family and other defense platforms to provide rechargeable power for dismounted troops and tactical equipment.

Galvion’s SoloPack is a compact, rechargeable lithium-ion battery for dismounted soldiers that weighs about 1 pound (450 grams) and provides up to 12 hours of power for missions.

It is designed to power equipment such as sensors, optics, navigation devices, portable field systems, and medical equipment.

According to the companies, the collaboration is intended to improve operational endurance, reduce reliance on disposable batteries, and meet the growing power demands of modern military equipment.

“We have spent over a decade driving innovations in power provision and management to provide solutions that can adapt to the ever-changing operational needs of the modern warfighter,” said Jonathan Blanshay, Founder and Executive Chairman of Galvion.

“With the explosion of power requirements due to additional equipment and devices, more elaborate integration networks and extreme weather environments, the time for inventive solutions is now.”

Paleblue’s Defense Battery Program

The investment builds on Paleblue’s growing presence in the defense sector.

In partnership with the Defense Innovation Unit and the US Army, the company is working on the Fast Adaptable Safe Trusted Battery program.

As part of the initiative, Paleblue is developing a military-grade rechargeable lithium-ion battery to replace conventional disposable cells.

The battery is intended to power tactical accessories, aviation equipment, and ground systems.
