SynMax has established a Maritime Intelligence Center in Washington, DC, a dedicated facility intended to support intelligence analysis and operational coordination for maritime security.
The facility will host analyst collaboration sessions, executive briefings, and technology demonstrations.
It is also intended to support coordination during sanctions evasion investigations, shadow fleet incidents, supply chain disruptions, and other events affecting strategic maritime chokepoints.
An inaugural event marked the center’s opening.
Attendees included representatives from the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, the US Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF), and the Department of Homeland Security.
Officials from the Drug Enforcement Administration, the US Senate, and other government and geospatial intelligence organizations also participated.
“Maritime intelligence has outgrown the dot-on-a-map model,” said Bill Perkins, Founder and President of SynMax.
“The vessels causing the most concern right now are the ones that have gone dark, and finding them requires fusing satellite sensors, agentic AI, and analyst tradecraft into persistent awareness rather than traditional periodic tracking.”
Initial Operations
Among the first organizations to operate from the facility will be the USGIF Maritime Domain Awareness Working Group, a cross-sector initiative established to strengthen cooperation on maritime intelligence.
The group brings together participants from government, defense, industry, and academia to exchange expertise and help shape future approaches to maritime domain awareness.
SynMax CEO Eric Anderson will serve as one of the group’s co-chairs.
According to the company, the center will provide the working group with office space and administrative support as it establishes its presence in Washington.
