EDGE Group has signed a cooperation framework with France as the Emirati state-owned defense conglomerate launched its European headquarters in Paris.
The agreement outlines a basis for future industrial and technological cooperation between EDGE and France’s defense procurement agency, which oversees capability development for the French armed forces.
The signing took place during the opening of EDGE Europe, the company’s new regional headquarters, which will serve as a hub for its activities across the European market.
Future Industrial Cooperation
The framework is intended to facilitate collaboration in areas related to defense technology, industrial development, and regulatory integration.
The agreement could pave the way for EDGE products and technologies to be evaluated for potential use within France’s defense ecosystem while aligning with French procurement requirements and regulations.
The move comes as European governments continue efforts to strengthen domestic defense industrial capabilities amid heightened security concerns following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and increasing emphasis on strategic autonomy across the continent.
Lieutenant General Gaël Diaz de Tuesta, France’s National Armament Director, said the agreement reflects the broader defense relationship between France and the UAE, while welcoming EDGE’s decision to establish operations in France.
EDGE Managing Director and CEO Hamad Al Marar added that the framework provides a foundation for a longer-term industrial relationship between the company and French defense institutions.
Expansion of European Presence
The establishment of EDGE Europe marks the latest step in the company’s efforts to expand its footprint beyond the Middle East.
Founded in 2019, EDGE has grown into one of the largest defense and advanced technology companies in the Gulf region, with activities spanning missiles, unmanned systems, electronic warfare, cyber technologies, and naval platforms.
The company said it plans to establish an engineering and manufacturing facility in Bordeaux, complementing its new headquarters in Paris.
France and the UAE have maintained defense ties for decades, including cooperation on military equipment, training, and security initiatives. The two countries have also strengthened industrial partnerships in recent years as Gulf states seek greater participation in advanced defense manufacturing and technology development.
