INEOS Automotive, SMT Defence, and NMS UK have formed Team Grenadier, an industrial partnership to offer military vehicle solutions for the UK Ministry of Defence.
The collaboration combines the INEOS Grenadier off-road platform with the vehicle integration, modification, and support expertise of SMT Defence and NMS UK.
Based on the INEOS Grenadier 4×4, the proposed vehicle features a ladder-frame chassis, permanent four-wheel drive, beam axles, and a high payload capacity.
“Team Grenadier is backed by proven UK-based industrial capability that can deliver operational effectiveness, supply-chain resilience and assured service-life support,” stated INEOS Automotive.
Division of Responsibilities
Under the partnership, SMT Defence will lead vehicle adaptation and systems integration activities.
Its role includes developing mission-specific configurations for communications equipment, specialist payloads, and other operational systems.
NMS UK will provide manufacturing, integration, and through-life support from its UK facilities.
Responsibilities include vehicle production, testing, fleet sustainment, and support services.
Light Mobility Vehicle Program
The partnership was established in response to the UK Ministry of Defence’s Light Mobility Vehicle (LMV) requirement, which aims to replace the British Army’s long-serving Land Rover fleet.
Under the program, London plans to procure a new generation of light tactical vehicles supported by long-term maintenance and support arrangements within the UK.
Initial platforms are expected to enter service by 2030.
The LMV program was launched as the British Army began retiring its Land Rover fleet earlier this year, bringing to a close more than 70 years of military service.
Used for patrol, liaison and transport missions, the vehicle remained widely employed across the armed forces, with more than 5,000 Land Rovers in service across the UK military last year.
