Australian firm Electro Optic Systems has completed its acquisition of MARSS’ defense business to offer integrated counter-drone capabilities under a single provider.
The deal brings together EOS’ portfolio of remote weapon stations and high-energy laser systems with the English firm’s NiDAR platform, an AI-enabled command-and-control and sensor-fusion system designed to detect, identify, track, and coordinate responses to threats across air, land, surface, and subsurface domains.
The platform aggregates data from multiple systems into a unified operating picture. Its open architecture also allows integration with existing third-party sensors and effectors.
According to the companies, the acquisition reflects a shift in EOS’ strategy from supplying individual defense components to providing end-to-end counter-drone systems.
“Together we can offer what the market has been asking for, genuine end-to-end protection from a single partner,” MARSS CEO Johannes Pinl said. “For our customers, that means greater capability, delivered faster, and a clearer path to staying ahead of a fast-evolving drone threat.”
MARSS will continue operating as “MARSS, an EOS Company” under its current leadership team.
Counter-Drone Consolidation Continues
Defense firms have increasingly turned to acquisitions to strengthen their positions in the rapidly growing counter-drone market.
This month, Collective Defence acquired Asterion in a deal valued at more than $1 billion, adding a portfolio of counter-drone technologies that includes radio-frequency detection, AI-enabled tracking, and both kinetic and non-kinetic intercept capabilities.
In February, Sensofusion acquired Finnish aircraft manufacturer Atol Aviation, expanding its counter-drone portfolio from ground-based systems to airborne surveillance.
