Anduril Industries has received a $363-million contract to deliver over 200 military-grade sensing masts to US Customs and Border Protection.
The order comes as the federal agency amplifies security across America’s southwestern border, which features “unpredictable conditions, vast geography, and dynamic challenges.”
The package includes the company’s Extended Range Sentry Towers (XRSTs), which use artificial intelligence to locate, identify, and monitor threats at up to 12 kilometers (7 miles).
Each of the 80-foot (24-meter) capabilities is built with a modular design to integrate mission-specific nodes and power sources, can be erected in less than three hours, and be activated round-the-clock.
Anduril highlights on its product portal that a single controller can operate more than 10 XRSTs.
Extending Autonomous Sensing Collaboration
The deal builds on an acceptance test completed in November 2024, during which the system was configured and evaluated to meet the long-range autonomous surveillance requirements of border patrol teams.
It also expands the defense contractor’s ongoing partnership with the government unit for seven years, which has previously deployed other Sentry tower variants to position a “force-multiplying and situational awareness” network.
“The effect of our technology can be measured in its capability and volume alike,” Anduril said. “Over 350 Standard Range Sentry systems are operating today, and these have autonomously identified hundreds of thousands of border crossings.”
“The range of this coverage has allowed the men and women of the Border Patrol to get out of the business of identifying border crossings so they can use their law enforcement training to execute higher-value tasks,” the company added.
