Rheinmetall, ERC Plan German Production Hub for Victor U250 Cargo Drone
Rheinmetall, ERC System, and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia have announced a partnership to establish production of the Victor U250 heavy-lift drone in western Germany.
The initiative seeks to support the industrialization and market introduction of unmanned aircraft by developing local manufacturing capacity and domestic supply chains.
Victor U250 is a hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing cargo drone designed to be quickly adapted for various missions through interchangeable payloads.
Its vertical takeoff capability allows it to operate without runways, while the hybrid-electric propulsion system supports operations in areas with limited infrastructure.
It can transport payloads of up to 250 kilograms (551 pounds) over distances of up to 300 kilometers (186 miles) and reach speeds of around 250 kilometers (155 miles) per hour.
Potential applications include military resupply, offshore logistics, disaster response, and medical transport.
Under the partnership, Rheinmetall will contribute aviation certification and unmanned systems expertise, while ERC System will continue development of the aircraft platform.
The government of North Rhine-Westphalia will support the project by evaluating potential production sites, identifying funding opportunities, and assisting with regulatory and approval processes needed for future manufacturing activities.
Program Developments
The partnership follows ERC System’s unveiling of the system earlier this month.
According to the Munich-based aviation startup, the aircraft draws on technologies previously tested through the company’s Romeo heavy-lift demonstrator and Charlie emergency medical transport platform.
The design was refined through feedback from prospective operators and is intended to support both military and commercial logistics applications.
Initial deliveries are currently planned for 2028.
