The US Army Corps of Engineers has completed a training workshop in Germany for officers from Ukraine’s State Special Transport Service (SSTS), focused on the management of large-scale infrastructure and reconstruction projects.
Training covered project planning, engineering design, construction oversight, and contractor management, including integrating private design and construction firms into major infrastructure programs.
The initiative aims to help Ukrainian military engineers manage increasingly complex reconstruction projects and strengthen the country’s long-term infrastructure planning.
“The engineers and finance experts from the SSTS actively engaged each course with a strong desire to learn and adapt the material for their use,” said Lt. Col. Chris Herold, Europe District’s Deputy Commander for support to Ukraine.
“We look forward to helping SSTS transition from a capable execution agency to a project management agency ready to rebuild Ukraine.”
Training and Partnership
SSTS is a military formation responsible for transport infrastructure, engineering support, and reconstruction tasks in Ukraine.
Training forms part of a 10-year cooperation framework established through a memorandum of cooperation signed during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome last year.
Under the agreement, both sides will continue to exchange knowledge about engineering, project delivery, infrastructure planning, and workforce development.
Ukrainian specialists are also sharing operational experience gained during the war under the partnership, including expertise in protective infrastructure and counter-drone measures.
Support for the initiative comes from several US organizations, including US Army Europe and Africa, the Security Assistance Group-Ukraine, the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center, and the Society of American Military Engineers.
