The Netherlands has announced it can no longer provide additional direct military equipment to Ukraine, saying it has exhausted the weapons it can transfer from its own stocks, Bloomberg reported.
Speaking on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, Dutch Defense Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius said the country would continue backing Kyiv by encouraging other allies to increase their support.
Asked whether the Netherlands could supply additional missiles for Ukraine’s Patriot air defense systems, she replied: “we are at our limit.”
The announcement comes as the Dutch government is reportedly planning to allocate more than 3 billion euros ($3.43 billion) in new defense initiatives, including plans to deepen cooperation with Belgium on air defense, the UK on naval shipbuilding, and Germany through additional joint defense projects.
Defense Industry and Funding Continue
The Netherlands has committed 9.1 billion euros ($10.5 billion) in military assistance to support Ukraine’s defense against Russia.
In April, the Dutch government announced a 248-million-euro ($293-million) investment in joint drone production with Ukraine, building on an earlier 110-million-euro ($127-million) commitment for the same effort.
The projects are part of the Build with Ukraine initiative, which enables Ukrainian defense companies to establish production facilities in NATO countries, protecting manufacturing from Russian attacks while deepening integration with Western defense industries.
Last year, the Netherlands became the first NATO member to finance a weapons package through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List mechanism, committing 500 million euros ($577 million) to procure US-made weapons from American stockpiles for delivery to Kyiv.
