Poland has launched a new initiative to speed up the testing and adoption of emerging defense technologies for the country’s armed forces.
The Innovator’s Proving Ground initiative, run by the Military Institute of Armament Technology on behalf of the Ministry of National Defence, is designed to accelerate the identification, evaluation, and fielding of new military capabilities.
This program will allow companies and developers to test technologies in conditions that closely resemble real military operations before they are introduced into service.
Initial efforts will focus on unmanned weapon systems and technologies designed to counter drones.
In addition to conducting field evaluations, the proving ground will verify compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, document test results, and support the transition of promising technologies from prototype to operational capability.
Poland Pushes Domestic Defense Production
The Innovator’s Proving Ground is the latest step in Warsaw’s broader effort to strengthen its domestic defense industry alongside its large-scale military modernization program.
In June, PZL Defence and Ukraine’s JSC Ivchenko-Progress agreed to jointly develop and manufacture small turbojet engines for aviation and defense applications while also cooperating on engineering education and workforce development.
The same month, Thales and Mesko signed an agreement to expand domestic production of 70mm rocket systems, including motor assembly and critical component manufacturing.
Earlier, in May, PGZ Nitro-Chem partnered with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems and Paramount Enterprises International to establish domestic manufacturing capabilities for 70mm Hydra rockets.
In March, Poland signed an agreement to establish a Common Anti-Air Modular Missile-Extended Range service and manufacturing center in Zielonka, bringing advanced air defense missile production into the country.
