Egypt’s Air Defense Forces are relying on domestically developed encryption systems and specialized cyber units to protect military communications as the country adapts to increasingly technology-driven warfare.
Commander Lt. Gen. Yasser Al-Toudi said cyberattacks have become a central feature of modern conflicts, alongside drones, ballistic missiles, electronic warfare, intelligence operations, and information campaigns, according to a report by Ahram Online.
Cairo has responded by integrating national encryption programs into its air defense network to secure information transfers and identification systems.
The force’s automated command-and-control center, Al-Toudi said, operates under the highest security standards.
He added that the Egyptian Armed Forces have established dedicated cybersecurity working groups across every military branch.
Egypt Broadens Cyber Defense Capabilities
Egypt has broadened its cybersecurity efforts beyond military encryption as cyber threats increasingly target government and critical infrastructure.
The government developed the National Cybersecurity Strategy for 2023 to 2027, which focuses on strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure and improving cyber resilience across government agencies, among others.
In March, Cairo and the EU held their first Security and Defence Dialogue in Cairo, with cybersecurity as one of the core areas discussed.
NATO and Egypt also previously identified cybersecurity as one of the priority areas for future capacity building.
