Sweden Procures SKORPION2 Mine-Laying System for Anti-Tank Defense 

Sweden has signed a 4-billion krona ($412 million) framework agreement with German firm Dynamit Nobel Defence to procure the SKORPION2 vehicle-mounted mine-laying system, strengthening its ability to rapidly deploy anti-tank mine barriers. 

The agreement runs through 2033, with an initial call-off order worth approximately 900 million kronor ($93 million) already placed.

Under the contract, Dynamit Nobel Defence will also supply live and training ammunition, as well as training and demonstration material. 

Sweden is the third European Union and NATO member to procure the SKORPION2 system, following Latvia and Denmark, which placed orders in October and December 2025, respectively. 

A common system is expected to improve interoperability among allied forces while strengthening European defense cooperation. 

About SKORPION2 

Introduced in 2024, SKORPION2 is a modular remote mine-laying system for wheeled, tracked, unmanned, and trailer-mounted platforms. 

According to the manufacturer, the system can deploy up to 400 mines across a minefield up to 2,000 meters (6,562 feet) wide in less than 10 minutes at an operator-selected density, helping delay and channel opposing mechanized forces. 

Its three-meter (10-foot) container houses four launchers, each fitted with five disposable magazines carrying 20 AT2+ anti-tank mines.

Next Generation AT2+ Mine

The Next Generation (NG) AT2+ is an upgraded version of Dynamit’s AT2 anti-tank mine, featuring digital controls, programmable deployment, and a multi-sensor fuze designed to engage targets across the full width of a main battle tank. 

Its warhead can reportedly penetrate more than 140 millimeters (5.51 inches) of rolled homogeneous armor and is hardened against mine-clearing systems. The mine automatically returns to its deployment position after firing, using six support legs.

The NG AT2+ mine is designed for deployment via SKORPION2, the handheld Bobcat mine-laying system, mine-dispensing rockets carrying two to five mines each, and helicopter-integrated mine-laying systems.
