Poland has signed a contract worth approximately 600 million złotys ($158.7 million) with Fabryka Broni Radom for almost 46,000 MSBS Grot A3 5.56mm assault rifles, strengthening efforts to modernize the country’s armed forces.
The agreement, signed between the Polish defense procurement agency and the state-owned manufacturer, covers deliveries through the end of 2027.
Local media previously reported that the package would include 45,800 units and a further 22,900 if additional options are exercised.
Alongside the Grots, the NATO country is expected to purchase 13,400 Vis 100 9mm semi-automatic pistols and 1,300 40mm underbarrel grenade launchers.
The MSBS Grot A3
The A3 is the latest version of Poland’s indigenous service rifle Grot, incorporating upgrades based on input from troops and recent operational experience, with improvements focused on ergonomics, durability, and reliability.
Similar to earlier iterations, the weapon has a fire rate of about 700 to 900 rounds per minute, but uses a slimmer handguard, an enhanced gas regulator, a reinforced stock mounting system, and a new receiver block design.
The gun has a muzzle velocity of 890 meters (2,920 feet) per second and a range of 500 meters (1,640 feet).
Poland’s Grot family of rifles, developed jointly by Fabryka Broni and the Military University of Technology, entered service with the Polish Armed Forces in 2017 as a replacement for older-generation rifles.
Its modular build allows users to configure the weapon for different missions, and features both conventional and bullpup layouts.
