Australia has pledged an additional 100 million Australian dollars ($70 million) in military assistance to Ukraine.
The package will be delivered through two 50-million-Australian-dollar ($35 million) contributions over the next 12 months to NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), a mechanism used to coordinate the acquisition of US-manufactured systems for Kyiv.
Funding is expected to support the procurement of capabilities such as air defense systems and munitions, although specific purchases have not yet been disclosed.
“What happens in Ukraine matters here in the Indo-Pacific, which is why it is so important for Australia to stay the course and continue to stand with Ukraine until they find peace on their terms,” stated Richard Marles, Australian Deputy Prime Minister.
The latest commitment increases Australia’s total support for Ukraine to more than 1.8 billion Australian dollars ($1.2 billion), including over 1.6 billion Australian dollars ($1.1 billion) in military assistance provided since 2022.
Training and Security Support
Canberra also continues to support Ukrainian forces through military training activities.
Australian Defence Force personnel also continue to train Ukrainian troops. The training is now being conducted in Poland as part of the Norwegian-led multinational Operation Legio.
Moreover, Australia has supported the training of Ukrainian forces through Operation Kudu, which contributes instructors to the UK-led multinational Operation Interflex mission.
The program includes training for junior military leaders and, according to the Australian government, more than 2,000 Ukrainian service members have completed training delivered under the Australian contribution.
Beyond training, Canberra has contributed to multinational efforts to monitor potential threats from Russia and reinforce European security.
In 2024, a Royal Australian Air Force E-7A Wedgetail airborne early warning and control aircraft, supported by up to 100 Australian Defence Force personnel, was deployed to Germany for six months.
