Czech aircraft manufacturer AERO Vodochody Aerospace has signed new contracts for its L-39 Skyfox jet trainer aircraft with customers in Angola and North America.
In Angola, the company signed an agreement to supply up to four L-39 Skyfox aircraft to the Angolan Air Force.
The package also includes support services and training-related systems intended to facilitate the aircraft’s introduction into service.
Angola initially explored upgrading its existing L-39 Albatros fleet, but ultimately decided to acquire newly built L-39 Skyfox aircraft instead, AERO explained.
A separate contract was signed with a North American customer from the civil aviation sector.
While AERO did not disclose the number of aircraft involved, the company said the customer already operates L-39 Albatros jets and will also support marketing and demonstration activities for the Skyfox platform in the region.
Aircraft covered by both contracts are already in production, and existing orders have filled manufacturing capacity through the second quarter of 2027.
L-39 Skyfox
The L-39 Skyfox is designed for advanced pilot training, light tactical missions, and reconnaissance tasks.
It can be configured to support training for fourth- and fifth-generation fighter pilots and incorporates digital avionics, simulation-based training systems, and NATO-compatible certification standards.
The aircraft is powered by a single Williams International FJ44-4M turbofan engine producing 16.9 kilonewtons of thrust.
It has a maximum speed of 907 kilometers (564 miles) per hour, an operational ceiling of 11,500 meters (37,700 feet), and a range of approximately 2,590 kilometers (1,609 miles).
The aircraft features a tandem-seat cockpit, a digital glass cockpit architecture, and five external hardpoints capable of carrying training pods, reconnaissance equipment, or light weapons, depending on customer requirements.
