Ukrainian defense firm BlueBird Tech is expanding into weapons manufacturing as Kyiv pushes to increase domestic production of precision-guided munitions.
The company announced it is opening a research and design bureau to develop and mass-produce guided aerial bombs, adding a new capability to the country’s growing defense industry.
The move will bring together engineers and scientists with expertise in rocketry and precision weapons development. Work has already begun on initial engineering tasks, with the first priority focused on guided aerial bombs.
BlueBird said it is coordinating with Ukrainian security and defense agencies as part of a broader effort to support next-generation missile and strike technologies.
“Every day, Russia uses hundreds of guided aerial bombs [and] Ukraine must respond no less effectively,” the company said. “We see a great demand for such systems and understand how important they are for modern warfare.”
Ukraine’s Local Defense Production
BlueBird Tech’s entry into guided bomb development reflects a broader trend within Ukraine’s defense sector, where companies are increasingly stepping up and expanding to meet wartime requirements.
In May, Ukraine eased customs procedures for domestic defense manufacturers importing foreign components, aiming to reduce supply bottlenecks and speed up weapons production.
The move follows an April survey showing growing international interest in partnerships with Ukrainian defense firms as demand rises for battlefield-tested technologies.
Earlier, in January, Kyiv launched the Defence City framework to support expansion of the domestic defense industry, attract investment, and streamline oversight of strategic manufacturing.
